Hi, My name is Marvin Mavine a.k.a. “Marvin The Moving Mavin” and I LOVE MOVING and Helping Others Reduce the Stress and Cost of Moving; you’ll soon learn why.
Like many military brats; I was born a U.S. citizen -overseas- to a U.S. Airforce Captain-Instructor who continued his career as an Air Force pilot and then an International airline pilot and eventually international airline executive.
My family moved almost every two years and I quickly learned that, when it came to moving, the world was definitely divided into only two kinds of people: those who dread it, and those who love it. You already know that I fall into the latter group.
It was also apparent to me at a very early age that moving was an extremely stressful process for most people and that the group of “rolling stones” who actually love it was a relatively small percentage of the total population.
I guess my family was split down the middle. It should be obvious to anyone reading this that my father fell into the “rolling stone” group. Flying was not only his career choice, it was his childhood fascination and dream which he fulfilled by actually taking off and loanding solo at the tender age of ten years old (no license required back then). You already know that flying became his career choice and he remained in teh Industry for his whole adult life.
What you don’t know, is that my Mother and Sister fell into the first category – they both dreaded moving. Heck, they dreaded my father’s flying and stressed out each and every time he took a trip. The fact that we were moving or planning a move while my father was away at almost any given time during my childhood created an extremely stressful environment.
Being the only son, with a father who was always away and a sister and mother who dreaded it, it was sink or swim for me. Good thing that I had my father’s love of being on-the-move or I would have had a pretty miserable childhood which negatively impacted my mother and sister’s whole life and relationship.
While I believe that there are only certain people who are born to be “rolling stones”, naturally loving the tumultuous upheaval of living on-the-move (by the way…some of the same personality traits that are central to being a good entrepreneur); there is also a nature/nurture aspect to it as some people are thrust into it – as I was- and must learn to sink or swim. In my case, I was lucky enough to have a double dose- both nature and nurture.
To tell the truth, however, I did not consciously realize that I have spent a good deal of my entrepreneurial career helping others in one or more aspects of the moving process, including aspects of transportation, travel, real estate and mortgage banking…to mention a few; until a couple of years ago when I purchased an Internet business that sold moving products and services.
I was always on the periphery of related support services. When I finally realized the common thread, my purpose in life crystallized; Marvin the Moving Mavin was destined, through nature and nurture, to help others reduce the stress and cost of moving!
Having thrown myself into an online career in a moving related business (that sink or swim entrepreneurial habit), I quickly learned that the Internet was a wasteland when it came to quality free informational resources for the consumer to rely on. Almost every “information” site I could find had, in the least, some type of spin to it and, at worst, was outright misleading.
When conducting my research, I could not believe it when I found out that Moving and Moving Products and Services is not even a Product or Service category within the taxonomy (how the Internet is broken down into related products and services by search engines) of Google or even Ebay?
Since it is estimated that around forty million Americans are on-the-move at any given time in the U.S. which is more than one out of four adult Americans dealing with the stress and cost of moving at any given time; not having a separate category for Moving on Google and Ebay was very revealing to me.
Realizing how difficult it is for most people who are already totally stressed out by the ticking time bomb of having to move their whole lives on a given date from point a to point b, not having one place to go where consumers can rely on the fact that they are getting the inside scoop on the tips and tricks of the moving process, from planning to documenting, to packing to contracting all of the service providers needed to complete a successful move; I have decided to dedicate to dedicate a portion of my online entrepreneurial life to helping consumers help each other reduce the stress and cost of moving.
